We are here for you. This page issues information from the people at the 'here to HEAR' Campaign. Sometimes, there are incidences that occur in our lives that make us feel hopeless, frustrated, incidences that leave us empty and depressed. heretoHEAR is a campaign that hopes to raise awareness for anyone suffering from depression or anxiety, and aims to provide a comfortable platform for people to share their stories.

Background (highlight the needs being addressed)

“Depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, more than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression.  At its worst, depression can lead to suicide. Suicide results in an estimated 1 million deaths every year. Although there are known, effective treatments for depression, fewer than half of those affected in the world (in some countries, fewer than 10%) receive such treatments. Barriers to effective care include a lack of resources, lack of trained health care providers, and social stigma associated with mental disorders.” (WHO) Statistics like these are what have motivated us to begin our project, here2HEAR, a campaign centred around empowering those whose lives are affected by depression and anxiety.

Mission and Objectives (what you want to achieve)

We are a group of International Baccalaureate students here to encourage and to promote this idea of "Empowering Diversity" by providing support for the adolescents who have fallen victim to Anxiety, Depression and those affected by any isolating disorders. Our campaign will emphasise this component of "Empowering Diversity" by allowing adolescents to simply know they are NOT ALONE. We will further provide them with past experiences of ex - victims of Anxiety and Depression. In this initiative, 'diversity' refers to the contrast of social situations that has led many adolescents to become a sufferer of Anxiety or Depression.

Activities (how will you achieve your goals?)

In order to create our project for "Empowering Diversity", our campaign will begin with a social movement, instigated by a video we have created during the conference. In addition to this, our project will include posters, creative art modules, motivational images, and success stories from those who have conquered their disorder to uplift the mood of the victims, as well as to empower them with a positive agenda in mind. Furthermore, our campaign will be dominantly on several social media platform; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. With an additional blog spot for adolescents to share their personal story or to interact with other youth members suffering with the similar issue. We hope to ensure that the atmosphere on our forum is not one of people suffering alongside one another, but one for those who need inspiration or ideas to remove themselves from the harsh conditions they are faced with. This will be achieved through the aforementioned success stories, and also through negativity being monitored by or forum’s regulators. Although our approach to social media will evolve as this campaign progresses, we will begin with a photo campaign which encourages the general community to capture a photo and post it on any off the previous social networking websites. Our agenda is to have "#here2hear" trending on all different mediums of social networking sites and to create social awareness concerning these isolating disorders and hopefully influence various adolescents to join us in our campaign.

People Involved (include a short description of you and your team members)

We are a group of 15 dedicated IB students, hoping to facilitate change and remove the stigma associated with the mental disorders: depression and anxiety. The students currently involved are: Serena, Dana, Jesmine, Veda, Deborah, Sofia, Karishma, Ayumi, Justin, Alani, Ilha, Jesse, Ashwin, Bonnie, Emma and our G.A.T Leader, Leanne.

Partners (you can add to this list as you find organizations willing to help)

Thus far, our two partner organisations are Stand Up SHOUT OUT, and SPACE Kenmore. However, we have plans for more supporting organisations in the future.

Timeline (mention key milestones)

Over the course of the project there are several key milestones that we hope to reach. Firstly, the launch of our photo campaign is our main milestone for the future. Also, once our promotional video receives 1 000 views, we will deem the project successful. Furthermore, once a school other than those that we are directly associated with takes up the project, we will have reached a milestone.

Budget/Resources (what you need in order to carry out your activities)

To carry out our activities, we will need to facilitate the weekly upkeep of our various social media sites, keep the information on our forum relevant, research more success stories for our forum, to find a spokesperson for our project, and to receive backing from a project supporter that has previously succeeded in their endeavour.

Evaluation (how you will measure the success of your project)

We will measure the success of our project through the amount of photo responses we receive for our photo campaign, the number of success stories that are independently uploaded to our page, and also through the number of likes we receive on our social media accounts.
